ISLAMABAD: Information Secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party Human Rights Cell Tariq Mahmood Ghouri has strongly condemned the suicide attack on the Aman Mela Check Post in Dera Ismail Khan and the recent wave of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In a statement, Tariq Mahmood Ghouri expressed deep grief over the loss of 12 lives in the attack, reportedly carried out with an explosive-laden vehicle at a joint anti-smuggling check post in the Darazinda area of Dera Ismail Khan. The victims included six police personnel, two customs officials, two women and a two-year-old child, while more than 35 people were injured.
He paid tribute to the martyred police and customs officials and prayed for the early recovery of the injured and for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs.
Ghouri said the continued wave of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was alarming. He referred to the September 19 attack at the Kohat Police Lines Mosque, in which 22 people were killed and more than 100 injured, as well as attacks targeting security forces in North Waziristan and Bannu on September 24–25.
He said terrorism had no religion and that targeting innocent people was a heinous act rejected by the entire nation.
Criticizing the provincial government, Ghouri said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government should focus on protecting its people instead of political activities and marches towards Islamabad. He alleged that the provincial government’s response to the growing threat of terrorism amounted to negligence.
He stressed that the eradication of terrorism was a national priority and called for continued efforts with full resolve until peace and security were restored across the country.
