PESHAWAR : A one-day special awareness session was held at the College of Home Economics, University of Peshawar, to promote awareness about women’s health, nutrition, hygiene and self-confidence. Titled “Health, Her Confidence,” the session was organized under the Aghaz AYFS Project in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP). Students, health experts, faculty members and other distinguished guests attended the session, while Principal of the college, Professor Dr. Shazia Ghulam Muhammad, was the chief guest.

During the session, Dr. Zaheen Anjum, Head of the Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences at the College of Home Economics, along with Dr. Ayesha Khan and Dr. Saima Farooq, spoke in detail on various important aspects of women’s health. The speakers highlighted the importance of menstrual hygiene, a balanced diet, proper nutrition, a healthy environment and overall physical and mental well-being, while providing students with useful information and practical guidance.

A gynecologist also conducted a special session titled “Building Her Health Toolkit,” providing students with essential information, preventive measures and practical guidance regarding women’s health. A question-and-answer session was also held, during which students asked various questions and received guidance from the experts.

An open discussion session was another important part of the programme, providing students with an opportunity to openly share their views, experiences and concerns. The activity aimed to promote positive dialogue on sensitive issues related to women’s health and encourage confidence and self-esteem among the students.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Professor Dr. Shazia Ghulam Muhammad thanked UNFPA and SRSP for organizing the awareness programme and said that such initiatives were the need of the hour for students. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about women’s health, encouraging open discussion on health-related issues and enabling students to understand their health concerns and seek timely guidance for their resolution.

The event was attended by Aghaz Project Focal Person Madiha Zaib, Project Psychologist Atshan Saba, faculty members and students. At the conclusion of the programme, honorary shields were presented to guest speakers and distinguished personalities, while certificates were distributed among the participating students.

The programme concluded with participants expressing their commitment to further promoting awareness about women’s health, nutrition, hygiene and self-confidence in educational institutions. The event concluded with a group photograph.
