PROVINCE REPORT
RABAT: King Mohammed VI of Morocco on Friday, October 16, 2026, presided over the ceremony appointing the members of the country’s new government, headed by Fatima Zahra El Mansouri, at the Royal Palace in Rabat.
The new cabinet was formed following the parliamentary elections held on September 23 and includes both ministers retaining their positions and newly appointed officials across several portfolios.
Abdelouafi Laftit will continue as Minister of the Interior, while Nasser Bourita retains the portfolio of Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad. Abdellatif Ouahbi has been appointed Minister of Justice, and Ahmed Toufiq will continue as Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
Faouzi Lekjaa, former president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and former Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, has been assigned the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The formation of the government follows King Mohammed VI’s decision on September 29 to task El Mansouri with forming a new cabinet. She briefed the King on the progress of the government formation process at the Royal Palace on October 14.
Speaking to the press after the appointment ceremony, El Mansouri said the government would work in line with the King’s guidelines, as outlined in the Throne Speech and the opening of Parliament, to develop an ambitious programme addressing citizens’ expectations and the country’s major challenges.
She said the government brings together four political parties with shared principles and converging programmes, forming what she described as a harmonious majority with a unified vision and joint action plan.
El Mansouri also highlighted the experience and expertise of cabinet members, as well as the significant representation of women and young people. She said the government programme would be presented to both Houses of Parliament and implemented through responsible public policies designed to deliver positive results for society.
The new government begins its tenure amid economic and social challenges, with expectations to advance development, improve public services and respond to citizens’ priorities.
