PROVINCE REPORT
PESHAWAR: The 15th free Chinese language course has begun at China Window, the Chinese cultural centre in Peshawar. More than 700 people registered through Google Forms this year, with 40 men and women of different ages selected following formal interviews.
On the first day, participants introduced themselves and expressed a keen interest in learning Chinese. They also toured the centre’s galleries, where they learned about China’s history, culture, development and Pakistan-China relations.
Briefing the participants, China Window Administrator Amjad Aziz Malik outlined the course and highlighted the importance of learning Chinese. He said Pakistan and China’s expanding educational, trade and cultural ties could create valuable opportunities for young people with Chinese language skills. Learning the language also helps people better understand each other’s cultures and traditions, he added.
Malik said the course was entirely free and would run for 45 days, with classes held every Friday and Saturday. Israr Khan will teach the course. He encouraged participants to attend regularly and make full use of the learning opportunity.
He added that China Window had so far provided basic Chinese language training through its two introductory courses to 850 people. In addition, seven talented students from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had received scholarships for higher education through the Cultural Section of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.
Participants appreciated the initiative, describing it as a valuable opportunity to learn a new language and broaden their knowledge of China.
