PESHAWAR: The Directorate General of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in collaboration with the Regional Sports Office Peshawar and the District Administration, organized the “Maarka Haq” Independence Day celebrations at Qayyum Sports Complex, Peshawar, featuring an exhibition cricket match.

The Directorate of Sports KP defeated the Sports Writers Association (SWA) by 40 runs to claim the trophy. Administrator Peshawar Sports Complex, Yousaf Afridi, was named Man of the Match for his outstanding 55-run innings.

Provincial Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Syed Fakhar Jahan distributed prizes among the winners, accompanied by DG Sports Tashfeen Haider, Regional Sports Officer Kashif Farhan, AD Accounts Shah Faisal, KUJ Secretary Irshad Ali, and SWA President Asim Shiraz.

Batting first after winning the toss, the Sports Department team posted 120 runs in 10 overs. Fakhar Jahan scored 25 and DG Sports Tashfeen Haider added 18, while Yousaf Afridi led the scoreboard with 55. SWA bowlers Shahid Afridi, Irshad Ali, Shehzada Fahda, and Bilal Afridi each took one wicket.

In response, SWA managed 80 runs, with Irshad Ali scoring 22, Bilal Afridi 19, and Waqar Ahmed 14.

The victory secured the Directorate Sports KP a 40-run win and the championship trophy. Independence Day programs will continue across the province until August 14.
