TP REPORT
PESHAWAR: Abdullah Shakir, son of the late Mufti Munir Shakir, who was martyred in the Urmarr bomb blast on the 15th of Ramadan last year, and head of the organization Nida-e-Quran, said during a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday that one year has passed since his father’s martyrdom, but the perpetrators have still not been identified or brought to justice.
He stated that relevant institutions have shown limited progress in the case and that individuals who allegedly issued threats of murder and bomb attacks have not been arrested. He also claimed that despite being victims of attacks, FIRs were registered against them.
Abdullah Shakir further said that their national identity cards are being blocked and passports are not being issued, questioning whether they are being treated as suspects. He added that they are repeatedly informed that investigations are ongoing, yet they are not updated on any progress.
He said they were recently asked to appear in court to identify a detained suspect, questioning how a 13-year-old could be involved in a bomb blast. He demanded clarity on what he termed an unjust process and called for transparency in the investigation.
According to him, authorities should make public the findings of the investigation and bring the real perpetrators to justice, as the individuals responsible are still at large and allegedly continuing to issue threats.
He also alleged that attempts were made to divert the investigation by suggesting that Mufti Munir Shakir was killed in a blast carried out by his own son, questioning the validity of such claims. He further stated that individuals who openly issued death threats on social media and in videos have not faced legal action and continue to threaten them.
Abdullah Shakir said he himself has been targeted in gunfire incidents and that despite requesting security, they have neither been granted weapon licenses nor provided protection. He questioned whether state institutions are working against them.
He also stated that although his father was associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Ulema Wing, the provincial government has not played a significant role in apprehending the killers or expressing condolences.
He urged the provincial government, investigative agencies, and senior authorities to immediately identify the perpetrators, ensure exemplary punishment, and disclose all progress made in the investigation to date.
