Peshawar: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert forecasting rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms across most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from March 17 to March 20.
According to PDMA, intermittent rainfall is expected in various parts of the province, while upper regions may experience snowfall during the period. The authority also indicated that cloudy weather conditions are likely to persist during the upcoming Eid days.
In view of the expected weather conditions, PDMA has directed all district administrations to remain on high alert and ensure necessary precautionary measures. Authorities have been instructed to maintain drainage systems, disseminate timely information to residents, tourists, and travelers, and ensure preparedness for any emergency situation.
Districts including Upper and Lower Dir, Upper and Lower Chitral, Swat, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Kolai Palas, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, and Mohmand are likely to receive intermittent rainfall with thunderstorms and snowfall over mountainous areas.
Similarly, rain is also expected in Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North and South Waziristan, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan.
PDMA has warned of possible landslides in vulnerable districts, including Abbottabad, Battagram, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Malakand, Mansehra, Mohmand, Orakzai, Shangla, Swat, Torghar, and North Waziristan.
The alert also highlighted the risk of lightning strikes and potential damage to weak structures, electricity poles, billboards, and solar panels due to strong winds and storms.
Farmers and livestock owners have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect crops and animals. The public has been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
