PESHAWAR: A special women’s Taekwondo competition was held at Hayatabad Sports Complex in Peshawar to mark Afghan Refugees Day, featuring an impressive participation of Afghan refugee and local Pakistani female athletes. The event witnessed a spirited display of skill, agility, and technique as the participants captivated the audience with their remarkable performances.

The primary aim of this event was to engage Afghan refugee women residing in Pakistan in positive, healthy activities while promoting friendship and harmony with local athletes. The high level of expertise and enthusiasm shown by the competitors reflected the growing interest in martial arts among women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

 

Afghan Commissioner Shakeel Muhammad Khan Safi graced the occasion as the chief guest. Commending the passion and determination of the athletes, he emphasized that such events play a crucial role in strengthening ties between the Afghan and Pakistani communities.

Prominent personalities, including Ehsanullah Khan, Directors Fazal Rabbi and Tahir Khan, Chairman of the Provincial Taekwondo Association Ilyas Afridi, and qualified Taekwondo coach Muhammad Raja were also present, adding prestige to the event. Addressing the gathering, the Afghan Commissioner hailed the joint participation of Afghan and Pakistani women athletes as a positive step towards fostering goodwill and mutual understanding between the two nations.

The event attracted not only well-known coaches and officials from the Taekwondo Association but also a large number of local sports enthusiasts. The presence of key figures like Ehsanullah Khan further elevated the atmosphere of the event.

At the conclusion of the competition, outstanding performers were awarded prizes and certificates in recognition of their skills and efforts. Organizers expressed their commitment to holding similar events in the future to provide female athletes with more opportunities to excel and progress in sports.

This successful event not only highlighted the role and potential of women in the sports arena but also served as a constructive step towards integrating the Afghan refugee community into the fabric of Pakistani society.
