PESHAWAR : Tribal leader Malik Saeed Afridi has called for immediate legal action over allegedly derogatory remarks posted on social media against Ghazi Ajab Khan Afridi, saying that the content had offended not only an individual but also the dignity and sentiments of the Afridi tribe and the wider tribal community.
In a statement issued here, Malik Saeed Afridi urged the authorities to take serious notice of the alleged social media content, identify the person responsible and conduct a transparent investigation in accordance with the law.
He said social media provided an important platform for freedom of expression, but such freedom carried a responsibility to respect the dignity and reputation of individuals and communities. Criticism and differences of opinion, he added, should be expressed within the limits of decency and without resorting to insulting or provocative language.
The tribal leader said remarks allegedly targeting an entire tribe or community could fuel resentment and create tension in society. He therefore urged the relevant authorities to establish the facts and take legal action if any violation of the law was found.
Malik Saeed Afridi also cautioned against any attempt to settle the matter outside the legal framework, stressing that no individual should take the law into their own hands. “The matter should be resolved through lawful and constitutional channels,” he said.
He further highlighted the historical and cultural importance attached to honour, dignity and mutual respect in tribal society. He said Ghazi Ajab Khan Afridi held a significant place in the history of the Afridi tribe and that any alleged offensive remarks concerning him could hurt the sentiments of members of the community.
Malik Saeed Afridi made it clear that his demand was not for any action beyond the law, but for an impartial inquiry, determination of the facts and proceedings against anyone found responsible for violating the law.
He called for restraint from all sides and urged the authorities to address the issue through due process, saying that respect for individual dignity, community harmony and the rule of law was essential to prevent the matter from escalating further.
