PESHAWAR : Transparency International Pakistan and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission have agreed to strengthen mutual cooperation to promote transparency, accountability, and public trust in climate governance and the carbon market. The two institutions also agreed to undertake joint initiatives for the effective implementation of the Right to Information law, institutional capacity building, and public awareness.
The agreement was reached during a meeting held yesterday when a delegation of Transparency International Pakistan visited the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission. Chief Information Commissioner Syed Nazar Hussain Shah and Information Commissioner Arshad Ahmad welcomed the delegation, which included Transparency International Pakistan Chairman Justice (R) Zia Perwez, Executive Director Kashif Ali Sheikh, and Research and Policy Lead Raima Mahmood.
During the meeting, both sides discussed measures to ensure transparency in policymaking, planning, and decision-making related to climate governance and the carbon market through the effective use of the Right to Information law. They also explored ways to strengthen accountability and enhance public confidence.
The participants agreed to promote institutional cooperation for the effective implementation of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act, improve the capacity of relevant institutions, and raise public awareness about citizens’ right to access information.
The meeting emphasized that effective implementation of the Right to Information law would not only strengthen environmental governance but also ensure greater transparency and accountability in decisions and projects related to the carbon market.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Transparency International Pakistan delegation invited Chief Information Commissioner Syed Nazar Hussain Shah to attend a workshop on climate governance and the carbon market being organized in Peshawar for members of the Provincial Assembly. He appreciated the invitation and described such collaborative initiatives as the need of the hour.
