PESHAWAR: The Sports Writers Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in collaboration with the District Administration Peshawar and the Regional Sports Office, will organize a prestigious awards ceremony on June 9 at a local hotel in Peshawar to honor sports journalists from across the province.

During the ceremony, awards, certificates of appreciation, and commemorative shields will be presented to senior sports journalists in recognition of their outstanding contributions to sports promotion, athlete encouragement, and sports journalism.

Speaking about the event, President of Sports Writers Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Asim Shiraz said that the primary objective of the ceremony is to acknowledge the valuable services of sports journalists, encourage professional excellence, and promote positive and constructive sports journalism.

He said sports journalists play a vital role in highlighting sporting activities, identifying emerging talent, and bringing sports-related issues to the attention of relevant authorities. He emphasized that their services deserve recognition and appreciation.

Asim Shiraz noted that the Sports Writers Association has been serving the sports community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the past 45 years by promoting sports, supporting athletes, projecting a positive image of sports, and safeguarding the rights of sports journalists.

He added that the awards ceremony would not only recognize the contributions of senior journalists but also motivate young sports reporters to pursue quality journalism and contribute positively to the development of sports.

Advisor to the Chief Minister on Sports, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, will attend the ceremony as the chief guest. Prominent personalities from the fields of sports, journalism, and social services are also expected to participate.

On the occasion, prizes will be distributed among the winning players who delivered outstanding performances during the three-day sports festival organized for sports journalists.

Asim Shiraz expressed hope that such initiatives would further strengthen sports journalism, promote sports culture across the province, and encourage the younger generation to actively participate in healthy sporting activities.
