An awareness workshop highlighting the humanitarian activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) under the special directives of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Syed Zafar Ilyas.
Representatives from the ICRC Peshawar Sub-delegation, Zeeshan Anwar (Communication Team Leader) and Salman Khan (Health Care in Danger Program Manager), were the keynote guests at the event. The workshop was hosted and coordinated by Anwar Khan, Chairman of the Department of Journalism.
During the session, the speakers elaborated on ICRC’s global and national humanitarian initiatives, its mandate, and its core principles. They emphasized the importance of humanitarian journalism, responsible reporting, and ethical standards. The speakers urged journalists to uphold the dignity and respect of individuals affected by crises during media coverage.
A special segment of the workshop was dedicated to introducing the global “Health Care in Danger” campaign, which focuses on the risks faced by healthcare workers and institutions in emergency situations, and the need for effective strategies to ensure their protection. The role of media in addressing these challenges ethically and professionally was also discussed in detail.
The workshop was attended by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Syed Zafar Ilyas, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Naseeruddin, Dean Faculty of Management Sciences Dr. Dilawar Khan, Public Relations Officer Rashid Ishaq, faculty members of the Journalism Department including Dr. Rehman Ullah, Fazal Wahid, Zain-ul-Qamar Paracha, Aamna Gul, along with faculty, staff, and students from various departments of the university.
The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the commitment to instill values of humanitarianism, ethical standards, and responsible reporting in current and future journalists, to contribute to the development of a just, dignified, and informed society.
