Bajaur: The recent inauguration of a radio station in Bajaur district, while presented at the official level as a success, has raised several questions when examined in light of ground realities. According to reports, this is not a new initiative but rather a years-old project that has long suffered from administrative negligence, mismanagement, and financial irregularities.
Sources state that the radio station was originally established to provide information, education, and social awareness in the tribal districts. However, over time, the project became non-functional. A severe shortage of staff and the unfair distribution of responsibilities further worsened the situation. The limited workforce—comprising one producer, one engineer, and a few support staff—appears unable to meet professional requirements.
Moreover, the non-payment of salaries to daily-wage radio presenters since May 2024 has become a serious issue. Due to the suspension of payments, several presenters have resigned, resulting in near-total disruption of broadcasts.
Valuable assets of the institution, including transmitters, microphones, mixers, and other equipment, are reportedly in a deteriorating condition due to poor supervision and ineffective utilization. Questions are also being raised regarding accountability in this regard.
In recent days, the re-inauguration of this inactive project as a “new” initiative has triggered strong reactions among the public and on social media. Critics argue that the move may be an attempt to gain political credit.
Experts believe that this issue is not merely about the failure of a single project but reflects broader systemic flaws. Public circles have demanded a transparent investigation into the matter, identification of those responsible, and appropriate action. They have also called for the immediate payment of dues to affected employees. Citizens warn that if such negligence is not addressed, public trust will further erode, and development projects will remain nothing more than paperwork.
