Peshawar: Bacha Khan Hockey Club Bannu emerged as Provincial Champions after defeating Civil Quarters Hockey Club Peshawar 3-1 in the final of the Third Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Hockey Tournament.
The final proved to be a high-intensity and action-packed encounter, with both teams demonstrating disciplined structure, pace, and technical skill. The match remained evenly balanced at 1-1 by the conclusion of the second half. However, in the decisive final phase, Bacha Khan Club shifted to an aggressive attacking formation and capitalized on scoring opportunities, netting two additional goals to seal a convincing 3-1 victory. Civil Quarters Peshawar secured the runners-up position.
The match officials included Ibrahim, Waqas, and Zeeshan as technical officials, while Falak and Haroon Shabi conducted the umpiring duties with professionalism.
The closing ceremony was graced by Brigadier Mubashir Ahmed Abbasi (Tamgha-e-Basalat), Commandant of Brigade 102, as chief guest. Upon his arrival, both finalist teams were formally introduced to him. The chief guest distributed trophies, medals, and awards among the players and commended the winning team for their outstanding performance. He emphasized that such tournaments play a pivotal role in revitalizing hockey at the grassroots level and channeling youth energies toward constructive sporting activities.
It is noteworthy that Bacha Khan Hockey Club Bannu has a strong competitive history, including commendable performances in PHF Inter-Club competitions and previously holding the title of champion team of Bannu. The club last represented the province in the National Inter-Club Championship in 2007. This latest victory is widely being regarded as a significant and historic comeback, earning appreciation from hockey circles across the province.
