Cantonment Board Peshawar (CBP) strongly rejects the baseless and factually incorrect statements issued by the Traders’ Alliance regarding the Tax Assessment Cell. CBP has clarified that its taxation system is not governed by any single individual but is managed through a transparent, fair, and comprehensive procedure as per the nationwide policy issued by the HQ Military Lands and Cantonments Department. This policy is uniformly applicable to all cantonment boards across Pakistan and clearly outlines the framework for assessment procedures.
For the purpose of public facilitation and to ensure a transparent taxation process, CBP has established a dedicated Assessment Cell, which operates independently from other departments such as recovery. This cell focuses exclusively on the assessment of properties. The staff is conducting fresh assessments based on modern parameters—physically inspecting properties, reviewing rental agreements, evaluating ground realities, and considering prevailing market rates. This ensures a fair, uniform, and transparent tax system.
Furthermore, an Assessment Committee has also been constituted under the Board, which is headed by an elected public representative, Mr. Faizan Khan, Nazim. Under his charimanship, the committee listens to the concerns and suggestions of taxpayers and makes decisions through consensus, thereby reinforcing transparency at every level.
It is pertinent to mention that Cantonment Board Peshawar is an autonomous body, which neither receives any grants nor financial assistance from the federal or provincial governments. All of CBP’s revenue is generated through local taxation and is utilized for civic services such as sanitation, street lighting, road maintenance, public parks, green belts, schools, hospitals, libraries, filtration plants, and other public development projects.
Therefore, the Cantonment Board Peshawar appeals to all respectable citizens, particularly taxpayers, not to fall prey to negative propaganda. Instead, they are urged to fulfill their collective and moral responsibility by ensuring timely payment of taxes and contributing to the continued development of their city.
