PROVINCE REPORT
PESHAWAR: Residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have termed the presence of the Pakistan Army in the tribal and settled districts as essential for maintaining peace and stability, disagreeing with the stance of some PTI leaders regarding the withdrawal of security forces from the region.
According to local residents, terrorism had gripped many parts of Pakistan, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during 2007 and 2008. They said that through the sacrifices of the Pakistan Army and police, peace was restored in several troubled areas.
People from different districts stated that whenever security forces leave certain areas, terrorists attempt to re-establish their presence. They maintained that without the timely action of the Pakistan Army, terrorism would still be widespread across many regions.
Residents demanded that the Pakistan Army should continue its deployment in sensitive areas to ensure that the current atmosphere of peace remains intact. They emphasized that the army has always stood shoulder to shoulder with the police and other institutions in the fight against terrorism.
Citizens said the sacrifices being rendered by soldiers are for the protection and safety of the people. They further remarked that terrorism cannot be eliminated completely without the support and presence of the army in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Calling the armed forces a blessing for the country, residents said the bravery and sacrifices of the Pakistan Army have protected the nation from destruction and instability.
