CM stresses efficient delivery of water supply services to the people of KP

PESHAWAR: An important meeting regarding rehabilitation of dysfunctional water supply schemes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held here on Friday with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur in the chair.
In line with the vision of “Clean Drinking Water for All,” it was decided that dormant water supply schemes across the province would be made operational on an emergency basis.
The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Local Government Arshad Ayub Khan, Minister for Public Health Engineering Pakhtoon Yar Khan, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, administrative secretaries of relevant departments, and other senior officials.
The Chief Minister directed for the immediate completion and activation of 572 ongoing drinking water supply schemes in the first phase and emphasized that all required resources for this purpose would be provided on a priority basis. He made it clear that these schemes must be made fully functional within the current fiscal year.
In addition, the Chief Minister directed that a non-ADP summary be submitted immediately for the activation of another 942 dormant water supply schemes. He said that work on rehabilitating these schemes would begin across all regions of the province. To ensure efficient execution, he directed the preparation of a comprehensive implementation plan outlining clear targets, scope of work, and timelines. The Chief Minister also stressed that the progress on these schemes would be closely monitored and warned that there would be zero tolerance for any irregularities or delays.
He stated that the government is making substantial investments in clean water projects, and the outcomes must reflect that level of commitment. There will be no compromise on transparency or quality in the implementation of these schemes, he said, adding that all relevant departments will be held accountable for timely and quality completion of their respective schemes of tubewells.
Ali Amin Gandapur further directed that the online system for real-time monitoring of water supply schemes be completed at the earliest. He emphasized the need to ensure accountability and responsibility among the officials assigned to these schemes. He also instructed the establishment of a permanent and transparent mechanism for the timely maintenance of functional water supply systems in the province.
Providing clean drinking water to the public remains a top priority of the government, the Chief Minister said, adding that if the dormant tube wells are restored, there will be no water scarcity in the province. For this, all responsible departments must fulfill their duties with utmost commitment and efficiency, he concluded.
