PESHAWAR: A comprehensive joint awareness session was organized by the Office of the Commissioner Peshawar Division, in collaboration with the Ombudsman Secretariat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on the occasion of National Women’s Day at the Commissioner Office, Peshawar Division.

The awareness programme was held under the leadership and patronage of Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Mehsud and Provincial Ombudsman for Harassment Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rabab Mehdi, reflecting strong institutional commitment to the protection of women’s rights, promotion of legal awareness, and strengthening of social justice.

The session focused on educating women about their legal rights, with special emphasis on women’s inheritance rights, laws related to workplace harassment, and the available legal protection and complaint mechanisms. Representatives from various government departments, universities, the legal fraternity, women professionals, business community, and civil society actively participated in the event.

Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Mehsud stressed the need to further strengthen institutional coordination, enhance joint initiatives at the district level, and adopt a coordinated strategy for the prompt resolution of public grievances. He announced that joint open courts would be organized in different districts in collaboration with the Ombudsman’s office to ensure timely redressal of complaints. He also highlighted plans to launch joint awareness campaigns to educate citizens, particularly women, about their rights.

On the occasion, Provincial Ombudsman Rabab Mehdi reiterated her commitment to women’s empowerment, effective implementation of legal protection mechanisms, and promotion of people-friendly reforms. She said that the Ombudsman Institution, in collaboration with the Commissioner Peshawar Division, would further expand awareness sessions, mobile complaint cells, and public outreach initiatives at the district level to ensure access to justice for all.

At the conclusion of the programme, both institutions agreed to continue working jointly through mutual cooperation, institutional coordination, and integrated planning to achieve the shared objectives of public service delivery, protection of women’s rights, and transparent governance.
