Karachi: A delegation of the Crime Reporters Association Karachi (CRA) called on Additional Inspector General Karachi Azad Khan, at the Karachi Police Office to discuss matters of mutual interest and professional cooperation.
The delegation was led by CRA President Sameer Qureshi. Discussions focused on enhancing collaboration between the police and crime reporters, the media’s role in crime prevention, and measures to further strengthen communication and coordination between the two sides.
Among those present were CRA Vice President Ubaidullah Shah, General Secretary Nadeem Ahmed, Information Secretary Asif Khan, Finance Secretary Akram Qureshi, and governing body members Adnan Rajput, Aurangzeb Jabbar, Saqib Alam, Saba Arooj Khan, Azhar Zaidi, Matloob Baig, and Waheed Jailani.
During the meeting, the delegation briefed the Additional IGP on the association’s initiatives related to members’ training, welfare activities, and ongoing efforts to address professional challenges faced by journalists.
On the occasion, CRA General Secretary Nadeem Ahmed expressed concern over cases registered against journalists allegedly under external pressure while they were performing their professional duties. He termed such actions detrimental to freedom of expression and independent journalism.
Both sides agreed that in the event of any complaints or issues concerning journalists, the Crime Reporters Association would be taken on board. It was further decided that a coordinated and effective strategy would be adopted through mutual consultation and joint action to resolve such matters.
The AIG Azad Khan appreciated the positive and responsible role played by crime reporters in highlighting issues related to law and order, including street crime, and in contributing to crime prevention efforts. He acknowledged that crime reporters have consistently supported the police and other law enforcement agencies by promoting their efforts against criminal elements.
Welcoming the proposals put forward by the delegation for joint initiatives, Police Chief emphasized that sustained coordination between the police and media is the need of the hour. He reaffirmed that Karachi Police remains committed to promoting people-friendly and effective policing at all levels.
