PESHAWAR:Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has said that the revival of cricket activities in Peshawar is a positive development that will further promote sports in the province. He expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for organizing major cricket events in the city.

He was speaking during a visit to the Press Gallery at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, on the invitation of the Sports Writers Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On the occasion, AIPS Asia Secretary General and President Pakistan Sports Writers Federation Amjad Aziz Malik welcomed the Governor and briefed him about the Press Gallery facilities.

The Governor said that the holding of the National T20 Cup has once again brought life to Peshawar’s cricket grounds, with a large number of fans attending matches, which is highly commendable. He added that the presence of spectators even during night matches reflects the immense love for cricket in Peshawar. He emphasized the need for another international-standard cricket ground in the city to accommodate growing interest.

He further stated that he will contact the PCB to arrange additional Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in Peshawar and expressed hope that at least three PSL matches could be hosted in the city. He said that other PSL teams will also play matches in Peshawar, and fans will come out in large numbers to support Peshawar Zalmi.

Responding to a question, the Governor highlighted that there is significant sports talent among both men and women in the province. He stressed the need to establish sports academies to engage youth in positive activities and promote healthy competition.

Governor Kundi concluded by saying that the people of Peshawar have great enthusiasm for cricket and that their passion for the sport is at its peak.
