PESHAWAR: A high-level weekly review meeting on governance and development affairs was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Shahab Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to assess public relief measures during the holy month of Ramadan.
The meeting was informed that Ramadan Dastarkhwan arrangements are being organized daily across all districts of the province to facilitate deserving individuals and travelers at iftar time. The Chief Secretary directed district administrations to ensure transparency, quality, and discipline in the management of Dastarkhwan arrangements so that maximum benefit reaches the needy.
Officials briefed the meeting that continuous inspections are underway in various markets to maintain price control, prevent hoarding, and enforce official price lists. Price control magistrates are conducting daily visits, and fines along with other legal actions are being imposed on shopkeepers found violating government directives.
The Chief Secretary emphasized that essential food items must be available to the public at official rates and warned that profiteering would not be tolerated. He particularly stressed vigilant monitoring of prices of flour, sugar, pulses, vegetables, and fruits during Ramadan.
The meeting was further informed that additional magistrates have been deployed in different areas to strengthen surveillance and ensure effective implementation of price control and administrative measures. The Chief Secretary instructed district administrations to remain active in the field and ensure prompt redressal of public complaints.
In addition to Ramadan relief measures, progress on the Peshawar Beautification Plan, promotion of investment under Public Private Partnership initiatives, and ongoing actions against illegal encroachments were also reviewed. The Chief Secretary directed concerned departments to adopt a coordinated strategy for city beautification, improved traffic management, and enhancement of civic amenities.
He reaffirmed that the provincial government is committed to transparent and effective governance, adding that special measures during Ramadan aim to provide relief, convenience, and security to the general public. All departments were directed to ensure full implementation of government policies through mutual coordination and effective communication.
