Karachi: A new chapter in Denmark–Pakistan economic cooperation has been initiated with the formalization of a strategic logistics partnership in Karachi, aimed at strengthening maritime trade corridors and optimizing regional supply chains.

The agreement brings together International Cargo Terminals (ICT), a subsidiary of Danish shipping conglomerate Scan-Group A/S, and Bahria Transshipment Hub of Pakistan (BTHP), marking a significant milestone in bilateral commercial relations.

The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Maja Derrous Mortensen, Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, whose presence underscored Copenhagen’s commitment to deepening trade and logistics cooperation with Islamabad. Her participation signaled strong diplomatic backing for enhanced commercial engagement and long-term economic collaboration.

The agreement was signed by Asim Saeed Khan, Managing Director of International Cargo Terminals (ICT), and Commodore (Retd) Shahab Qamar, CEO of Bahria Transshipment Hub of Pakistan (BTHP). The partnership is expected to streamline cargo movement, improve terminal connectivity, and enhance supply chain efficiency between Pakistan and European markets.

Simultaneously, ICT announced the ongoing expansion of its state-of-the-art Northern Bypass Terminal in Karachi. The infrastructure upgrade is designed to significantly increase inland cargo-handling capacity, reduce congestion at Karachi’s seaports, and ensure seamless integration between port operations and inland distribution networks.

As a subsidiary of Scan-Group A/S, ICT’s expansion reflects growing Danish investor confidence in Pakistan’s logistics and maritime sector. The collaboration is anticipated to optimize container traffic management, facilitate smoother trade flows, and position Karachi as a more competitive logistics hub in South Asia.

The strategic alliance and terminal expansion together represent a substantial advancement in Denmark–Pakistan trade relations, laying the groundwork for improved connectivity, operational efficiency, and sustainable bilateral business growth in the years ahead.
