SHANGLA: Deputy Commissioner Shangla, Syed Abdullah Shah, stated that despite being a remote and underdeveloped district facing poverty and multiple public challenges, Shangla possesses immense untapped talent. He emphasized that if the youth work actively and diligently, they can transform their own lives and significantly improve the district’s socio-economic condition.

He expressed these views while addressing the founding meeting of the District-Level Business Hub organized by Nida Pakistan Organization as the chief guest.

The Deputy Commissioner noted that limited employment opportunities have compelled nearly 80 percent of the local population to work in coal mines. He stated that the district administration is moving toward establishing a Business Development Hub aimed at utilizing the skills of youth, particularly women, and connecting them with sustainable market opportunities.

Highlighting the economic potential of local craftsmanship, he observed that traditional handicrafts, embroidery, and garments produced by women in Shangla hold substantial market value but lack structured access to broader markets. The proposed hub, he explained, will facilitate collection, branding, and marketing of these products while linking artisans to regional and national buyers. He also appreciated the role of local NGOs in supporting community development initiatives.

The Deputy Commissioner further announced that youth and women would be provided soft loans on easy terms to enhance skills, initiate small businesses, and contribute meaningfully to the district’s economic progress.

District Manager of National Bank of Pakistan, Mian Syed Hussain, also addressed the gathering and informed participants that the bank is offering five different loan schemes. He assured special facilitation for youth and women entrepreneurs through the proposed Business Hub framework.

The event concluded with an Iftar dinner attended by the Deputy Commissioner, officials, and distinguished participants, marking a collaborative step toward local economic empowerment in Shangla.
