SWAT: Ghaligay Police Station successfully exposed an inter-district gang involved in robbing tourists and local citizens at gunpoint, arresting four accused and a female facilitator during a targeted operation.
Addressing a press briefing, Additional SP Swat Ghulam Sadiq, accompanied by SDPO Barikot Syed Rahim, SHO Ghaligay Police Station Nisaruddin, and Investigation Officer Shakeel Khan, said that three days ago armed robbers deprived tourists visiting Swat of a motorcycle, cash and mobile phones in the Barikot area before fleeing the scene.
Following the registration of a case on the complaint of Sajjad, son of Muhammad Ali, a resident of Buner, DPO Swat Muhammad Umar Khan took immediate notice of the incident and constituted a special investigation team led by Additional SP Ghulam Sadiq and supervised by SDPO Barikot Syed Rahim.
Using CCTV footage and modern technical resources, the police team arrested four members of the inter-district gang — Muhammad Kamran, Asad Khan, Haris Khan and Junaid, all residents of Mardan district — along with a female facilitator.
Police officials revealed that the arrested suspects were wanted by police in Swat, Mardan, Swabi and Batkhela in multiple theft and robbery cases.
During the operation, police recovered Rs110,000 in cash, three stolen motorcycles, two pistols, 24 mobile phones of various brands, and wallets looted during different incidents.
The police said further investigations are underway and more disclosures are expected from the arrested suspects.
