ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, Senator Dr. Musadik Malik, met Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi at the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination today. The meeting focused on the environmental situation in Sindh, climate resilience, afforestation, environmental protection and other matters of mutual interest.
Governor Sindh appreciated the Ministry’s efforts, under the leadership of Senator Dr. Musadik Malik, to address climate change and strengthen environmental protection. He emphasized that enhanced cooperation between the Federal Government and the provinces is essential for effectively responding to environmental challenges.
During the meeting, Federal Minister Dr. Musadik Malik and Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi agreed to launch a special Tree Plantation Drive and Urban Forest Programme across Sindh to increase green cover, improve air quality and promote sustainable urban development.
Senator Dr. Musadik Malik also agreed to Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi’s proposal to launch a special Independence Day Tree Plantation Campaign across Sindh, stating that planting trees is an investment in a safer, greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.
The two leaders further agreed, in consultation with the Federal Minister for Railways, to explore the establishment of Urban Forests along railway corridors, particularly in Karachi, to develop green corridors and support climate-resilient infrastructure.
Governor Sindh invited Senator Dr. Musadik Malik to visit the Governor House Karachi and deliver special lectures to university students on climate change, environmental conservation and sustainable development. The Federal Minister accepted the invitation and reaffirmed his commitment to raising environmental awareness among young people and encouraging their active participation in climate action.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on the country’s overall political situation. Both leaders underscored the importance of national unity, political harmony and stability, agreeing that Pakistan cannot afford political polarization and that all stakeholders should work together in the larger national interest.
Senator Dr. Musadik Malik also paid tribute to Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi’s longstanding political struggle, public service and contributions to national politics, describing his role as valuable and commendable.
