PESHAWAR: Ms. Xiaoqin (Emma) Fan, Country Head of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Pakistan, accompanied by Nissanka Amila Salgoda, Country Operations Head, along with their delegation, paid an official visit to the Peshawar Museum on Tuesday.

During the visit, the delegation was warmly received by officials of the Directorate General of Archaeology & Museums, KP, who provided a comprehensive briefing on the historical significance, architectural heritage, and invaluable collections housed within the museum. The visiting team was taken on a detailed guided tour of various galleries, showcasing rare artifacts from the Gandhara civilization, ancient sculptures, manuscripts, coins, and other archaeological treasures that reflect the region’s rich and diverse cultural legacy.

Ms. Fan and her team expressed deep appreciation for the museum’s well-organized and thoughtfully curated exhibitions, highlighting the importance of preserving cultural heritage for future generations. They commended the Directorate for its dedication, professionalism, and continued efforts in safeguarding and promoting the province’s archaeological wealth despite various challenges.

The delegation also showed keen interest in ongoing and future initiatives aimed at conservation, digitization, and public engagement, emphasizing the role of cultural institutions in fostering tourism, education, and international understanding. They acknowledged that institutions like the Peshawar Museum serve as vital custodians of history and play a significant role in strengthening cultural identity and heritage awareness.

Officials of the Directorate General of Archaeology & Museums briefed the visitors on current preservation projects, restoration work, and collaborations with national and international partners. They reiterated their commitment to maintaining global standards in conservation and museum management while ensuring accessibility for researchers, students, and the general public.

The visit concluded with a note of mutual appreciation, with both sides expressing interest in continued cooperation to support cultural heritage preservation and promote sustainable cultural tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
