PESHAWAR: Under the leadership of Chairperson Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW), Dr. Sumera Shams, effective measures have been initiated to strengthen women’s representation at the grassroots level. In this regard, the Commission has issued notifications for the establishment of District Committees on the Status of Women in 26 districts, marking a historic step towards women’s leadership and participation.

This development is of particular significance as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women Act was passed in 2010, and for the first time since its enactment, concrete steps have been taken to ensure its implementation at the district level. The formation of these committees will create an institutional mechanism at the local level for monitoring women’s issues, enhancing coordination, and ensuring their timely resolution.

Speaking on this development, Dr. Sumera Shams stated that these initiatives are being undertaken in line with the vision of the provincial government, aimed at empowering women, safeguarding their rights, and enabling them to play an effective role in the national development process.

Dr. Sumera Shams also expressed special appreciation for the Social Welfare Department and the entire team of the Women Commission for their untiring efforts and professional commitment in making this important initiative a reality.
