Staff Report
Nowshera: A Drug Burning Ceremony was held at Risalpur by the Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), with Major General Abdul Moeed, HI (M), Director General ANF, serving as the Chief Guest.
The event was attended by senior officials from civil, military, and law enforcement agencies, as well as members of civil society, renowned sports and media personalities, and students from various educational institutions. Foreign dignitaries, including representatives from international partner organizations and Drug Liaison Officers (DLOs) accredited with Pakistan, participated virtually.
In his address, DG ANF emphasized that drug abuse is not merely a legal issue but a profound threat to human life, societal stability, and national security. He highlighted ANF’s ongoing commitment to a comprehensive three-pronged strategy: Drug Supply Reduction, Drug Demand Reduction, and International Cooperation.
“No single entity can tackle this menace alone,” said the DG. “It requires a collective response from government institutions, civil society, international partners, and the general public.”
During the event, 12.647 metric tons of narcotics and 973.75 liters of alcohol, seized by ANF’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and North Directorates, were destroyed—symbolizing Pakistan’s firm resolve against drug trafficking.
The DG shared that in 2024, ANF seized 176.412 metric tons of narcotics and precursor chemicals, comprising 124.731 MT of narcotics and 51.681 MT of precursors. In 2025, seizures have already reached 77.641 metric tons—a reflection of ANF’s strong operational resolve despite limited resources.
He also noted that this year, narcotics are being destroyed using climate-friendly incinerators, ensuring complete and eco-friendly burning of drugs.
In conclusion, Major General Abdul Moeed reiterated ANF’s vision of a “Drug-Free Pakistan”, urging all sectors of society to support ANF in its mission. He expressed gratitude to national and international guests for their participation and support, affirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to a drug-free nation, region, and world.
