ISLAMABAD: The Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad, in collaboration with the Capital Development Authority (CDA), organized a plantation drive under Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative, drawing participation from diplomats, business leaders, media representatives, and civil society members.
The event was held in solidarity with Ethiopia’s ambitious goal of planting 800 million seedlings in a single day. Addressing the gathering, Ethiopian Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Melaw Getachew highlighted the success of the Green Legacy Initiative, stating that more than 48 billion seedlings have already been planted under the flagship environmental program. He said the campaign reflected Ethiopia’s commitment to combating climate change and promoting global environmental sustainability.
Chairman of the Clean and Green Movement Islamabad and former President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce Zafar Bakhtawari praised Ethiopia’s large-scale reforestation efforts, saying the Green Legacy Initiative closely aligns with Pakistan’s own environmental goals. He stressed the need for collective international action to address climate change and promote a greener future.
