PESHAWAR: The EVAWG Alliance KP has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Dr Mehwish, a dedicated medical professional who was shot dead in Kohat after performing her professional duties.

In a statement issued on February 27, the alliance termed the tragic incident a reflection of the growing insecurity faced by women professionals and stressed the urgent need for systemic action to ensure their safety.

The alliance expressed heartfelt condolences to Dr. Mehwish’s family, colleagues, and the medical community, emphasizing that violence against women is a serious human rights violation that must not be tolerated.

The EVAWG Alliance KP called upon the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and law enforcement agencies to conduct a time-bound, transparent, and impartial investigation, ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible, and publicly disclose the findings. The statement noted that accountability is essential to restore public trust and prevent future acts of violence.

Furthermore, the alliance urged the government to introduce strong workplace security protocols, gender-responsive safety measures, and effective protection mechanisms to guarantee safe working environments for women professionals across all sectors.

The alliance concluded by stating that justice for Dr. Mehwish must not only punish the perpetrators but also lead to lasting measures ensuring safety and protection for all women.
