ISLAMABAD: In a powerful display of unity and mutual respect, the British High Commission Islamabad hosted a landmark interfaith Iftar dinner in Islamabad, bringing together representatives from 11 different religious communities from across Pakistan. The event was designed to celebrate the nation’s rich tapestry of faiths and underscore the importance of inclusive dialogue.
Leaders and members from Pakistan’s diverse religious landscape, including prominent figures from Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and other minority communities, gathered to share a meal and engage in meaningful conversation. The gathering served as a vibrant platform to promote social inclusion and highlight the vast, often underrepresented, religious communities that contribute to the country’s cultural heritage.
Beyond the breaking of the fast, the evening was dedicated to fostering deeper understanding among faiths. Guests discussed the critical importance of mutual respect, empathy, and ensuring equal participation for all citizens, regardless of their religious background.
Jane Marriott CMG OBE addressed the attendees, emphasizing the symbolic and practical importance of such gatherings. She drew attention to an often-overlooked symbol of national unity, stating:
“The white in Pakistan’s flag is not decorative: it represents a commitment to dignity and equal belonging. Events like this bring us together around empathy, connection, and a reminder that difference is not a barrier but a strength.”
Her remarks resonated deeply with participants, reinforcing the message that Pakistan’s strength lies in its diversity.
The interfaith Iftar forms part of the British High Commission’s ongoing commitment to supporting dialogue between communities. The event aligns with its broader mission to encourage equal rights and opportunities for all citizens, fostering an environment where every individual feels a sense of belonging and can participate fully in national development.
Religious leaders present at the gathering welcomed the initiative, appreciating the opportunity to exchange perspectives and share a meal with fellow Pakistanis from different faith traditions. The event stood as a testament to shared humanity and the enduring potential for unity in diversity.
