PESHAWAR: Continuing Crackdown on the directives of the Chief Minister
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against Adultration madia in the province, the Food Safety and Halal Food Authority, , carried out major operations against substandard and hazardous food in Peshawar and Swat, confiscating and destroying more than 8,000 kilograms of various food items.
According to a spokesperson for the Food Authority, the Peshawar food safety team carried out raids on several spice manufacturing units after receiving a tip-off. During the operation, officials recovered and confiscated 1,200 kilograms of bran, 100 kilograms of used oil and 30 kilograms of non-food grade colour from one of the units.
The food authority team imposed fines on the owners for violations and initiated further legal action under the Food Safety Act.
The spokesperson added that in a separate operation in Swat, the food safety team discarded more than 8,000 kilograms of substandard and confiscated food items.
During the operation, over 3,654 litres of substandard beverages and 1,880 kilograms of spices were also discarded. Additionally, 158 kilograms of chat masala, 423 kilograms of China salt and 251 kilograms of gutka were destroyed.
Similarly, 843 kilograms of substandard packaging material, 160 kilograms of bakery items and 60 kilograms of pops were also disposed of.
The Authority officials further stated that 25 kilograms of non-food grade colour along with 749 kilograms of various grocery items were also destroyed during the operation.
Director General of the Food Authority, Kashif Iqbal Jillani, said that operations against the adulteration mafia were continuing across the province on the directives of the Chief Minister. He added that eliminating the adulteration mafia from the province was the mission of the Food Authority, and ensuring the provision of safe and quality food to the public remained its top priority.
