PESHAWAR: A special literary ceremony was organized at the Government Frontier College for Women, Peshawar, in recognition of the academic and literary services of renowned poet, short-story writer, playwright, columnist and educationist Professor Nasir Ali Syed. The ceremony featured detailed discussions on literature, creativity, reading, intellectual development and the promotion of literary taste among the younger generation.
Renowned producer Mushtaq Shabab attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Principal of Government Frontier College for Women Professor Dr. Shaheen Umar, Engineer Atiq-ur-Rehman, renowned writer Bushra Farukh, Sameena Qadir, Khadim Ibrahim and other literary and academic personalities, along with students of the college, also attended the event.
Addressing the ceremony, Principal Professor Dr. Shaheen Umar, Mushtaq Shabab, Engineer Atiq-ur-Rehman and other speakers paid tribute to Professor Nasir Ali Syed for his extensive academic and literary services, his contributions to Urdu literature, his creative journey and his role in various literary genres.
The speakers said that Professor Nasir Ali Syed has made a significant contribution to the promotion of Urdu literature through his writings, literary activities and educational services. They described his creative journey as an important source of learning and inspiration for the younger generation.
The speakers observed that maintaining young people’s connection with books and reading in the present digital age is a major challenge. In this context, they said, organizing literary sessions, poetry gatherings, reading programmes and interactive meetings with renowned writers at educational institutions can play an important role in promoting a love for books, intellectual maturity and creative abilities among students.
They further said that literature is not merely a source of entertainment or leisure; rather, it plays a fundamental role in the intellectual, cultural and moral development of society. Through literature, the younger generation can better understand their society and culture while also being introduced to diverse ideas, experiences and human emotions.
The participants termed the presence of Professor Nasir Ali Syed at the literary event a valuable academic opportunity for the students. The speakers said that direct interaction with a distinguished writer and listening to his experiences not only helps students understand different aspects of literature but also encourages them to express themselves through writing and creative work.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Government Frontier College for Women Professor Dr. Shaheen Umar said that literature plays a fundamental role in the intellectual and cultural development of any society. She said the responsibility of educational institutions is not limited to providing students with academic education; rather, they must also contribute to the development of other dimensions of their personalities. Literary and cultural activities, she added, play an important role in achieving this objective.
Professor Dr. Shaheen Umar said that the Government Frontier College for Women is providing students with opportunities to participate in academic, literary, cultural and creative activities alongside their regular education.
She said that the college would continue inviting renowned writers, intellectuals, literary figures and scholars from different walks of life to promote literary activities, enabling students to learn beyond the classroom and broaden their intellectual horizons.
The participants appreciated the college administration for organizing the special literary ceremony and said that such activities play an important role in the personality development of students. They observed that an association with books, literature and art encourages young people to engage in positive and constructive activities while also developing their ability to understand and reflect upon social issues.
