PROVINCE REPORT

PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has approved significant increases in compensation and welfare benefits for police martyrs, injured personnel and their families, announcing a comprehensive relief package within 48 hours.

The package aims to recognise the sacrifices of police personnel, improve their financial security and provide greater support to the families of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Under the revised compensation package, financial assistance for the families of martyred police personnel from constable to inspector has been increased from Rs11 million to Rs17 million. Compensation for DSPs and ASPs has been raised from Rs16 million to Rs25 million, while officers in Grades 18 and 19 will receive Rs30 million, compared with Rs21 million previously. For officers in Grade 20 and above, the compensation has been increased to Rs35 million.

The package also introduces direct financial assistance in place of residential plots for the families of martyred personnel. Families of constables to inspectors will receive Rs18 million, while those of DSPs and ASPs will receive Rs25 million. Families of officers in Grades 18 and 19 will be provided Rs35 million, while those of Grade 20 and above will receive Rs70 million.

The new arrangement will enable bereaved families to purchase or construct houses according to their needs without waiting for plot allotments.

Financial assistance for injured police personnel has also been substantially increased. Compensation for permanent disability has been raised from Rs500,000 to Rs5 million, while assistance for personnel injured during duty has increased from Rs100,000 to Rs1.5 million.

The package further provides Rs5 million in financial assistance in the event of the death of a police officer’s spouse or child, and Rs3 million in the event of the death of a parent, brother or sister.

In recognition of the sacrifices made by police martyrs, their daughters will receive Rs1 million each as special assistance for marriage.

Other measures include educational assistance for the children of martyrs, a coordinated mechanism for cooperation with corporate organisations and banks under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and recruitment against vacant police posts.

The recruitment initiative is intended to reduce the additional workload on serving personnel and ensure adequate manpower for public safety and security.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said the welfare of police personnel and their families remained an important responsibility, emphasising that the families of martyrs were a source of pride and deserved continued support.

He also directed the relevant authorities to pursue further salary increases to ensure that the salaries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police personnel become more competitive compared with those in other provinces.
