PROVINCE REPORT
DI Khan/Peshawar: Chairman of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association and former provincial minister Aqil Shah met Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi at the Governor House to discuss sports development, sports infrastructure, and the 2027 South Asian Games.
Aqil Shah expressed concern over the reported exclusion of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from hosting events of the 2027 South Asian Games. Governor Kundi termed the move regrettable, saying the Peshawar Sports Complex has international-standard facilities and is fully capable of hosting major sporting events.
He said that at a time when the province is overcoming security challenges, sidelining Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would harm its positive image and sports development. The Governor stressed that hosting international competitions in Peshawar would project the province as a hub of peace, sports, and youth talent.
Governor Kundi reaffirmed his commitment to promoting sports and encouraging young athletes, adding that the provincial government would continue supporting initiatives, including the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Champions League, to expand sporting activities across the province.
