PESHAWAR : MPhil scholar Hira Tahir of the Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences, College of Home Economics, University of Peshawar, has successfully defended her research thesis examining the potential role of traditional herbs in managing blood glucose and lipid levels among patients with Type II diabetes.
Titled “Impact of Traditional Herbs on Glycemic Control and Lipid Profile in Type II Diabetic Patients,” the study explored the effects of selected traditional herbs on glycemic control and lipid profiles, with a focus on their potential contribution to diabetes management.
Dr Zahin Anjum supervised the research, while Dr Zainab Bibi, Assistant Professor at Tameer-i-Millat University and Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, served as the external examiner.
The thesis defence was attended by Principal of the College of Home Economics Prof Dr Shazia Ghulam Muhammad, faculty members and teachers of the Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences.
During the defence, Hira Tahir presented the objectives, methodology, findings and conclusions of her research. She also responded to questions from the external examiner concerning various aspects of the study.
Prof Dr Shazia Ghulam Muhammad congratulated the scholar on successfully defending her thesis and appreciated her efforts in conducting research in the field of food, nutrition and health sciences.
She emphasised the importance of quality research in addressing health-related challenges and promoting evidence-based approaches in nutrition and healthcare. She also expressed hope that Hira Tahir would continue her academic and scientific work and contribute further to the fields of nutrition and public health.
The successful thesis defence marked an important academic milestone for the scholar and highlighted the growing scope of research into traditional dietary and herbal approaches to health and disease management.
