Staff Report
PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party Secretary General Muhammad Humayun Khan, while responding to the provincial government’s released report on the Swat tragedy, said that the heartbreaking incident in Swat raises a serious question mark on the performance of the provincial government. The loss of precious human lives due to the recent floods in Swat is clear evidence of the government’s incompetence and complete failure.
Humayun Khan stated that the government took no precautionary measures to deal with natural disasters, and the delay in launching relief operations in the affected areas exposes its criminal negligence. The recent torrential rains in Swat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, led to devastating floods, yet the provincial government neither provided timely assistance nor undertook any preventive safety measures.
He added that if the provincial government had promptly sent helicopters, many precious lives could have been saved. Unfortunately, the government displayed its usual apathy, laziness, and incompetence, which resulted in irreparable losses.
He further remarked that the focus of the provincial government’s politics revolves solely around the release of Prisoner No. 804, not the welfare of the public. The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are facing serious issues such as healthcare, education, employment, and inflation. The provincial government has completely failed in fulfilling its constitutional and public responsibilities.
The province’s resources, institutions, and administrative powers are being used for a specific individual’s release campaign. The people elected the government to resolve their issues, not to dedicate the entire state machinery for one person’s cause.
The Pakistan Peoples Party is a democratic, pro-people, and ideological party that has always been the voice of the people. Our politics is not aimed at gaining power but at serving the people and achieving national development. We will continue to expose the government’s failures at every level and will persist in our struggle to protect the basic rights of the people. The provincial government must stop using public resources for political objectives and provide the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa their constitutional and economic rights.
