Peshawar: Under the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Khan Afridi, a tree plantation campaign was launched at Central Jail Peshawar as part of the “Ehsas-e-Shajar” program. The initiative aims to achieve the government’s target of planting 1 million saplings in a single day.
The event was attended by Inspector General of Prisons Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Raihan Gul Khan Khattak, along with other officials and staff. The ceremony also included the cutting of a Pakistan Day cake on March 23, and IG Khattak formally inaugurated the plantation drive by planting a sapling.
According to the IG, the campaign is not limited to Central Jail Peshawar; it is being carried out in all jails across the province in a coordinated manner. The drive sends a clear and positive message of environmental protection and alignment with the government’s vision. Special prayers were also offered for the country’s security, development, and prosperity.
IG Khattak emphasized that environmental change and population growth are among the biggest challenges facing Pakistan today, and tackling them is crucial. From Chitral to Parachinar and Mansehra to Dera Ismail Khan, tree plantation drives are underway in all provincial jails.
