Karachi: Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho has directed police to intensify action against street crime, extortion and other criminal activities in Karachi, with a particular focus on intelligence-based operations, increased patrolling and stronger deployment of the Shaheen Force across all districts. He issued the directives while chairing a review meeting at the Central Police Office on the overall law and order situation in the city and police measures against crime.

Karachi Police Chief, Additional IG Operations, DIGs Sindh Police Highway Patrol, Headquarters, Establishment, Special Branch, CIA, zonal DIGs, Welfare, Finance, SSP SIU and other senior police officers attended the meeting. The Additional IG Karachi briefed the meeting on the overall law and order situation in the city, while the zonal DIGs and SSP SIU presented detailed reports on crime and the measures being taken in their respective zones and units.

The Karachi Police Chief informed the meeting that police performance against street crime and other offences was being reviewed on a weekly basis. He said patrolling had been strengthened and additional personnel had been deployed to improve the response to street crime. He added that Karachi Police were carrying out daily operations against street criminals and other elements involved in criminal activities.

The SSP SIU briefed the meeting on complaints of extortion in the city, preventive measures, action taken against suspects and progress made so far in tackling the issue. Taking note of the situation, IGP Odho directed officers to go beyond identifying suspects involved in recent incidents and trace the wider criminal groups and networks operating behind such offences. He ordered a significant increase in the deployment and patrolling of the Shaheen Force in every district and effective action against drug mafias under the ongoing measures of the Sindh government and police.

The IGP also called for intensified action against absconders, habitual offenders and other suspects involved in criminal activities. He directed field officers to further strengthen operations against street crime and extortion and ensure the protection of citizens through coordinated strategies, effective monitoring and intelligence-based action.

“Protection of the lives and property of citizens is the foremost responsibility of Sindh Police,” the IGP said, directing officers to make indiscriminate action against criminal elements more effective. He further ordered officers to strengthen preventive measures at the patrolling levels and utilise all available resources to maintain law and order and ensure the safety and security of citizens.
