Bajaur : Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, paid an emergency visit to district Bajaur and met the families of the Ababeel Squad personnel who were martyred in a terrorist attack in Naway Kali the previous night. The IGP offered condolences, prayed for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks, and handed over financial assistance cheques to the bereaved families.
According to details, on the evening of February 25, terrorists opened fire on a police patrol party in Naway Kali at the time of Iftar, when the personnel were performing their duties to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property. As a result of the attack, four personnel of the Ababeel Squad were martyred on the spot, while two others sustained injuries.
The IGP, accompanied by the Additional IGP CTD and the Regional Police Officer Malakand, laid floral wreaths at the Martyrs’ Memorial and offered collective prayers. Later, during his meeting with the families of the martyrs at the DC Compound, he stated that the cowardly attack reflected the weakness of the terrorists. He added that Bajaur Police have always remained at the forefront in the fight against crime and terrorism, and such incidents cannot demoralize the force.
Zulfiqar Hameed emphasized that a thorough investigation from all angles is underway and that the perpetrators will soon be traced and brought to justice. He also directed that the injured personnel be provided with the best possible medical treatment.
While interacting with police officials on duty, the IGP said that the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and its people is filled with unmatched sacrifices. “We have never stepped back before, nor will we in the future. Protecting the public remains our top priority, and our struggle against terrorism will continue until its complete elimination,” he remarked.
He further assured that the government would take all necessary steps to ensure the proper care and support of the martyrs’ children and to fulfill the basic needs of Bajaur Police. Paying tribute to the joint sacrifices of the police and the public in the fight against terrorism, he reaffirmed that law enforcement agencies will continue coordinated efforts to establish lasting peace in the region.
