The inaugural ceremony of World Breastfeeding Month (August) was held in District Bajaur, highlighting the vital importance of maternal milk for infant health and nutrition. The event, organized by the Bajaur Health Department in collaboration with UNICEF, took place at DHQ Hospital Khar. It was attended by officials from the district administration, medical experts, religious scholars, the Ehsaas Nashonuma Program, health department staff, and media representatives.
The chief guest of the ceremony was District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Gohar Ayub. Other notable attendees included MS DHQ Khar Dr. Hayat Afridi, National Program Coordinator Dr. Arif, EPI Coordinator Dr. Najeeb, Integrated Nutrition Program District Manager Salahuddin, IMO Aamir Hussain, ADC Nabila Bibi, LHVs, LHWs, nutrition assistants, Ehsaas Nashonuma Program Manager Luqman, and TB Control Program Incharge Dr. Ajmal.
Speakers emphasized that breast milk is a complete and safe source of nutrition for newborns. It plays a vital role in infant growth and development and also serves as their first natural immunization. Health experts urged parents to exclusively breastfeed their babies for the first six months and avoid any supplementary foods or traditional remedies.
DHO Dr. Gohar Ayub stated that the health department is utilizing all available resources to ensure primary healthcare services for children across the district. He further added that throughout August, a comprehensive awareness campaign will continue to promote the benefits of breastfeeding, and the health department staff remains committed to providing quality healthcare with dedication and integrity.
A symbolic walk was also organized on the occasion, in which all participants, including DHO Dr. Gohar Ayub, actively took part.
