PESHAWAR: Prominent lawyer and PTI leader Muazzam Butt has urged citizens to protect their fundamental rights peacefully and strictly within the Constitution and law.
Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, Butt expressed concern over the prevailing political situation and said discussions on a presidential system and new provinces or administrative units were gaining momentum.
He said the creation of new provinces was a constitutional matter that must be debated and decided by Parliament and assemblies rather than through daily political statements.
Referring to Pakistan’s political history, Butt recalled the cases of former prime ministers Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, saying important questions surrounding their deaths remained unresolved. He also said the PTI founder Imran Khan had highlighted weaknesses in the country’s political and governance system.
Butt alleged that political voices were being suppressed and people were being deprived of their fundamental rights. He also questioned the effectiveness of the judiciary and governments in providing relief to citizens.
He criticized the incomplete implementation of the NFC Award and urged the public to safeguard their constitutional rights through peaceful and lawful means.
