Kehkashaan Zahra Hussain of the Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences College of Home Economics University of Peshawar has successfully defended her research thesis on the impact of financial constraints and food access on dietary diversity among cancer patients receiving treatment at hospitals in Karachi.
The research, conducted under the supervision of Dr. Zaheen Anjum, focused on the challenges faced by cancer patients in maintaining a diverse and adequate diet amid financial difficulties and limited access to food.
Associate Professor Dr. Atta Ullah Jan of the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Islamabad, evaluated the thesis as the external examiner.
Principal of the College of Home Economics, University of Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Shazia Ghulam Muhammad, congratulated the MPhil scholar on successfully defending her research and appreciated the efforts of supervisor Dr. Zaheen Anjum and faculty members for promoting research and academic activities at the institution.
Kehkashaan Zahra Hussain is currently serving as Lead Clinical Dietitian at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), Karachi and has more than 25 years of professional experience in the field of clinical nutrition.
Her areas of expertise include renal nutrition, oncology, critical care and specialised nutrition support. She is also an active speaker and researcher, and is a life member of the Pakistan Nutrition and Dietetic Society (PNDS) and associated with PPNG.
Her research was described as an important contribution towards strengthening academic research and promoting evidence-based practices in clinical nutrition, particularly in addressing the dietary challenges faced by cancer patients.
