Rabat, Morocco: His Majesty King Mohammed VI, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, inaugurated on Monday the Mohammed VI International University Hospital Complex of Rabat—a world-class medical facility offering advanced healthcare services and high-level training in health sciences.
On the same occasion, His Majesty issued High Royal Instructions to bring into service the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center of Agadir, a major regional medical hub designed to advance healthcare delivery and medical education in the Souss-Massa region.
A Landmark in Modern Healthcare Infrastructure
The Mohammed VI International University Hospital Complex of Rabat, established by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sciences and Health, symbolizes the King’s visionary commitment to providing equitable, next-generation healthcare access across Morocco.
Spanning 280,000 m², the complex includes:
•The Mohammed VI International University Hospital of Rabat (190,000 m²)
•The Mohammed VI University of Science and Health (90,000 m²)
Equipped with 600 beds, expandable to 1,000, the hospital comprises more than 30 medical and surgical centers of excellence, including robotic surgery, neurosurgery, oncology, radiotherapy, and interventional cardiology.
It houses 24 state-of-the-art operating rooms, 143 intensive care beds, and is the first in Morocco and Africa to feature PET-MRI technology for ultra-precise diagnostics. Other innovations include a robotic pharmacy, a fully automated laboratory platform, and Morocco’s only digitalized anatomical pathology lab.
The complex also features a burn unit, hyperbaric and hypobaric oxygen therapy services, and a medical simulation center for hands-on clinical training.
Academic Excellence and Sustainability
The adjoining Mohammed VI University of Sciences and Health–Rabat can accommodate up to 8,000 students across seven faculties and schools, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary sciences, and nursing. Its 15 lecture halls, 72 classrooms, and 217 labs provide a robust academic environment aligned with global medical education standards.
The complex is also certified HQE (High Quality Environmental Standard) – Exceptional Level, integrating 8,800 m² of solar panels that supply over 10% of its energy needs, reducing carbon emissions by 40%.
Agadir Mohammed VI University Hospital Center: A Symbol of Regional Modernity
Built over 30 hectares with an investment of MAD 3.1 billion, the Mohammed VI University Hospital of Agadir features 867 beds, specialized medical and surgical units, 19 operating rooms, and five emergency rooms.
It is the first hospital in Africa to deploy the Revo I surgical robot, enabling minimally invasive procedures with exceptional precision. The cardiology department includes two cardiac catheterization rooms and ICU facilities equipped for complex cardiac interventions.
To ensure patient safety and efficiency, the hospital includes a central sterilization unit, an automated medication dispensing pharmacy, and a training and simulation center.
Serving nearly three million residents of the Souss-Massa region, the Agadir facility will significantly reduce the need for patients to travel to other cities for advanced treatments.
National Impact
Together, the two new medical complexes will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, bolstering Morocco’s healthcare capacity and driving economic and social development nationwide.
These landmark projects reaffirm King Mohammed VI’s vision of a modern, equitable, and technologically advanced healthcare system that serves citizens across all regions of the Kingdom.
