PESHAWAR: Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar has announced the establishment of a sub-campus in District Buner, aimed at expanding medical education and healthcare facilities in one of the province’s underdeveloped regions. The announcement was made by KMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq during his visit to the flood-affected areas of Buner, in line with the directives of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
The newly proposed campus will initially offer programs including Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), BS Audiology, BS Occupational Therapy, BS Speech and Language Pathology, BS Nursing, BS Vision Sciences, BS Nutrition, and BS Allied Health Sciences. Regular classes are set to commence in October/November 2025, with preparations already underway.
Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq stated that the campus will serve as a milestone in addressing healthcare challenges in Buner by providing quality education at the doorstep of local communities, particularly for students from remote and underprivileged areas, with a special focus on female students. The initiative aims to reduce financial burdens, create local employment opportunities, and enhance regional healthcare services.
During his visit, the Vice Chancellor inspected the proposed campus site, visited Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Pir Baba, and toured flood-affected areas where KMU has deployed a mobile public health laboratory with a 12-member qualified team. The mobile lab offers diagnostic services for waterborne and epidemic diseases such as cholera, dengue, malaria, COVID-19, and more.
Additionally, KMU has established a free medical camp in Buner, providing consultations, diagnostic services, and essential medicines to local residents.
