CHITRAL: Athletes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa delivered remarkable performances at the National Level Winter Sports Competitions held in Naltar, Gilgit-Baltistan, winning multiple medals across various disciplines and bringing honor to the province.

According to Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tashfeen Haider, Sanwa Hussain secured the gold medal in women’s speed skating, demonstrating outstanding speed and technical skill. In the relay event, Taiba Rehmat and Alina Bahadur won the silver medal.

In the women’s curling competition, the KP team comprising Mashhoda Akbar, Taiba Rehmat, Alina Bahadur, and Eliza claimed the bronze medal. KP women athletes also showed strong performance in ice hockey, winning the silver medal, and added another silver medal in the women’s team event.

In the men’s curling competition, the KP team consisting of Zulfiqar Ali, Hasnain Karim, Afaq Afzal, and Shafiq Alam earned the bronze medal, reflecting the growing strength of winter sports in the province.

DG Sports Tashfeen Haider stated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Department organized winter sports competitions for men and women in Upper Chitral last month to promote winter sports, identify emerging talent, and prepare athletes for national-level competitions. He added that the players who performed well at the provincial level were selected to represent KP at the national championships in Naltar, where they achieved notable success.

He emphasized that the primary objective of organizing winter sports competitions is to develop sports infrastructure, enhance athletes’ skills, and prepare players for competitive events, reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting sports culture and nurturing talent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
