PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s young Muay Thai fighters made history by clinching the championship trophy at the first Inter-Provincial Ranking Muay Thai Championship, winning an impressive 16 gold and 5 silver medals. Sindh secured the second position in the competition.
Organized by the Pakistan Muay Thai Federation, the two-day championship was held in Abbottabad, featuring male and female fighters from different provinces of the country. Athletes competed in various weight categories, producing highly competitive and exciting bouts.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa fighters dominated the championship from the outset, displaying confidence, determination and excellent technical skills. Among the prominent medal winners were Abubakar, Nimra, Saddam, Muhammad Ibrahim, Shahan, Mohsin, Fahad Zaid, Shah Zaib, Shah Zaman, Sayar and Baseer Shah, along with other talented fighters.
The outstanding performance of the KP contingent once again highlighted the abundance of young talent in the province, particularly in Muay Thai and other martial arts. Officials said that with proper patronage, modern training facilities, qualified coaching and regular opportunities to compete at national and international levels, these young fighters could emerge as future representatives of Pakistan on the international stage.
Speaking on the occasion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muay Thai Association President Ilyas Afridi and Secretary Inayatullah expressed satisfaction over the impressive performance of the provincial fighters. They urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Department to provide regular patronage to Muay Thai and include the sport in the province’s Under-21 Games.
The association officials said that KP’s Muay Thai fighters have repeatedly demonstrated their abilities at national-level competitions, making it essential to provide them with government-supported training camps, professional coaching, sports equipment and opportunities to participate in national and international events.
Pakistan Muay Thai Federation Secretary Rehan, Vice President Imranullah, KP Muay Thai Association President Ilyas Afridi and other officials said that inter-provincial competitions provide young athletes with valuable opportunities to test their skills, gain experience and compete against high-quality opponents.
They emphasized that the promotion of Muay Thai could not only help discover new martial arts talent in the province but also encourage young people to participate in healthy and constructive activities.
The 16 gold and 5 silver medals won by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were described by officials as clear evidence of the province’s growing potential in Muay Thai. They stressed that sustained institutional support and better competitive opportunities could enable KP fighters to achieve even greater success at national and international levels.
Inayatullah, Secretary of the KP Muay Thai Association, congratulated the successful fighters, coaches and officials, and said that continued support from the Sports Department was essential for the development and promotion of Muay Thai in the province.
