PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa on Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan, on Wednesday said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a custodian of an ancient cultural and civilizational heritage. He expressed these views during a meeting with Director General Archaeology Dr. Abdul Samad here at his office in the Civil Secretariat. Matters relating to the preservation of archaeological sites, restoration and beautification of historical locations, promotion of religious tourism and establishment of a museum in Kohat were discussed in detail.

Dr. Abdul Samad briefed Special Assistant Shafi Jan on plans for Kohat museum and ongoing efforts to preserve and develop sites of historical and religious significance across province.

Shafi Jan said on occasion the province is home to invaluable historical assets, including relics of the Gandhara Civilization. He emphasized that protecting and restoring these sites is not only a responsibility but also a key driver for tourism and economic growth.

Highlighting religious tourism, he noted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa hosts several sacred sites for followers of Buddhism and Sikhism, which if promoted globally can attract a large number of international visitors.
He further added that proposed Kohat museum would serve as an academic and research hub for students, scholars and tourists, preserving local history, antiquities and cultural heritage, while educating future generations.

Special Assistant reiterated that provincial government is prioritizing tourism development by improving access to tourist destinations, providing basic facilities and upgrading infrastructure in line with international standards.

He reaffirmed KP government’s commitment to preserving heritage, restoring archaeological sites and promoting religious tourism to enhance the province’s positive image, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the economy.
