PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism (KPCVE), in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and with the support of the European Union (EU), organized the first day of a two-day Strategy Review Workshop under the project titled “Roadmap for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE)” in Islamabad.
The workshop brought together experts from academia, the Counter Terrorism Department, the Prison Department, civil society, and various government institutions. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions and group activities aimed at reviewing and refining the draft P/CVE roadmap. The objective was to ensure an inclusive, evidence-based, and context-specific framework that enhances coordination, peacebuilding, and resilience initiatives across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speaking at the opening session, representatives from KPCVE and UNODC emphasized the importance of collective and data-driven strategies to counter the root causes of violent extremism. They highlighted that preventing radicalization requires sustained efforts through education, social inclusion, and community engagement, especially in vulnerable regions.
The workshop also provided a platform for stakeholders to share experiences, best practices, and innovative approaches for strengthening institutional and community-based mechanisms in the fight against violent extremism. The final day of the workshop will focus on consolidating recommendations and finalizing the provincial P/CVE roadmap for effective implementation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
