PESHAWAR: Pakistan WAPDA’s Mahoor Shehzad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Murad Ali emerged as champions in the women’s and men’s singles events respectively at the Buraq 62nd National Badminton Championship, while WAPDA players also dominated the doubles competitions.

The championship concluded at the Qayyum Sports Complex, Peshawar, and was organized by the Pakistan Badminton Federation in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Association. The closing ceremony was attended by Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tashfeen Haider, President Pakistan Badminton Federation Wajid Ali Chaudhry, and Buraq CEO Ali Haider Babakhel as chief guests, who distributed trophies, medals, and prizes among the winners. Senior federation officials and sports dignitaries were also present.

In the men’s singles final, defending champion Murad Ali successfully retained his title by defeating Pakistan WAPDA’s Mukit Tahir in straight games. In the women’s singles final, Mahoor Shehzad outclassed her teammate Ghazala Siddique to clinch the championship.

Pakistan WAPDA maintained its dominance in the doubles events. Zubaira Islam (WAPDA) and Imama Usman (SNGPL) secured the women’s doubles title, while WAPDA’s Muhammad Ali Larosh and Zubaira Islam won the mixed doubles crown. The men’s doubles trophy was claimed by Pakistan Army’s Raja Muhammad Hasnain and Raja Zulqarnain.

The event concluded on a high note, highlighting the growing standard of badminton in Pakistan and the commitment of sports bodies to promoting the game at the national level.
